Recovering my interest in taking photos, I purchased a Sony Cyber-shot back in 2006 so that I could have it by my side almost anywhere I might go. Shortly after I took some photos in San Diego and put them on my Mac, a chance view of my desktop showed the koi in such stark reality that I knew then what one of my activities would be in retirement - publishing in some way a variety of my photos.

Rita Martin
Artist Of The Month - May 2011
I grew up in Canada and met and married an American. I've lived in Skagit Valley for 20 years. I enjoy being close to the ocean as well as the mountains. I started painting after having my 1st child and was able to stay home . I started taking lessons and fell in love with the rich color of oils. I later had two daughters and tried to squeeze in time to paint which is a challenge when raising a family! Now that they're older I am able to paint more and have also developed a passion for photography.

Gayle Holmes
Artist Of The Month - March 2011
There was always a little voice inside of Gayle telling her she should be a artist. She finally came to the point in her life where she decided "this is the time". Gayle started taking art seriously in 2004, taking lessons from Patty Raab, who taught Russian Impressionism. This was Gayles first experience with the basics of drawing, painting and fine art, opening the door to her passion of painting. While Gayles style leans toward realism, she is indebted to her mentor, Patty, who taught her to see as a artist.

Janean Jolly
Artist Of The Month - February 2011
Janean works full time in the legal field and started Jolly Stones and Glass in 2009, as her "art therapy". She spends her free time working in her home studio in Mukilteo. The earrings, pendants, and bangles I create are done in my home studio by cutting, shaping and fusing dichroic glass. After the glass is fired in a glass kiln, the pieces are shaped and refired to give the glass strenth and expose the unique beauty of the dichro colors. The glass piece is then secured within the silver settings using a compatible glass epoxy.
