 The Skagit Art Association is a non-profit organization, founded in 1956 to create, foster, and sustain interest in the arts, to further the understanding and appreciation of art in all its forms, and to sponsor displays, exhibits, and educational programs. Each year, the association awards scholarship/s to students of Skagit Valley College Members enjoy benefits like showing their art in local businesses and participating in association-sponsored shows. One of the most popular shows is "Art in a Pickle Barn", held each spring during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon. Membership is open to Skagit County residents interested in the visual arts. There is a limitation for residents of other counties. Photographers would be on a waiting list to be eligible to show in the barn . Membership fees of $20 for artists are due June 1-June 30th of each year to be eligible to show in the next years’ Pickle Barn show. The Pickle Barn participation requirements are included in our bylaws (which are given to each new member when joining.) A joint membership for an artist and his/her non-artist spouse is $25 a year. New members must work some shifts for training purposes, in the first Pickle Barn show after joining, to be eligible to show the following year. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the Mount Vernon Senior Center EXCEPT April, July, August and December, and often feature speakers or demonstrations of art.
